French toast with sweet potatoes, fresh fruit, a tall glass of mimosa and a swag bag that rivals all swag bag really helped me get my week off to a great start. Black Girls Who Brunch put on an excellent event and remember it's okay to treat your self! This afternoon I took my little man to a free Easter Egg Hunt at Mission Bend Methodist Church. If you missed it, you'll have to check it out next year because not only did we get candy, but we got two gift cards to McDonald's in our eggs!! I really enjoy an event that is family friendly, but also family engaging, and this event was definitely that! After we completed the hunt, we worked in teams to complete a scavenger hunt. Well enough about my weekend, here are some events for you to do this month to help you and your family create some stories of your own.
Celebrating Easter this Sunday? Why not take some time out on Saturday afternoon at take your kids to the Houston Public Library for an Eggstravaganza-- did I mention there's going to be free candy? Check your local library for the times.
Also, the library hosts a free camp for kids from K-8th grade. The Library staff members are well trained with lots of information to help your students enjoy themselves while learning-- hard to believe? Try out the camp and make your own opinion http://houstonlibrary.org/camp-stream
Black Girls Who Code Houston Chapter is sponsoring an all day Mom and Daughter Coding Event.
We CREATE! A Parent-Daughter Circuits and IoT Workshop!

If you have no idea what coding is then this is definitely for you! STEM is the future, and what better way to bring in Mother's Day month than with your daughter.
Speaking of STEM, HCC has a free summer camp for girls in grades 7th- 12th grade. I know it's a struggle to get the teens out of the house ( in a productive way) during the summer, so why not give this a shot-- did I mention it's free?
If you follow me on instagram ( if you don't then what are you waiting for? @urbankidinthecity) you'll have seen this one. The Eastside Takeover is partnering with Fort Bend ISD to bring 4 free events to the community at Hightower High School. Check out the flier below for more information.
If you like trails and hiking, get your walking shoes on April 7th the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center are hosting their weekend family walks. For a cost you and your family will get a journal and all the art materials you need to sketch pictures of Nature at it's finest. Although this one is a little pricey, how often do you and your family disconnect from your WiFi and enjoy the fresh air?? Never-- okay then Ill see you there!
If your kids are budding actors or actresses then you'll want to check out Levy Park on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th for their Young Actors Improv Show! I went to an Improv show with my sister recently, and remember its all about audience participation. So bring a megaphone and some snacks and enjoy the show!
The Houston Museum is free on Thursdays, but if you'd rather go when it's less crowded try visiting them at Levy Park on the 4th Saturday of the month. They bring lots of their materials to the park so you get kind of the same feeling...kind of. The museum is amazing so look on Groupon for their discounted coupon and head over.
Speaking of the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Sugar Land sponsors a morning story time with a twist. They bring in service dogs that are in training and allow your little one of any age to read to the dog. It's a great for your kids to practice reading-- that's a teacher certified statement-- cause I'm a teacher, and I said it.
If you want to do the Hobby Lobby Challenge, then go to Hobby Lobby. If you want to do the same thing in Michaels and get some free crafts, then check your store's local calendar.
Last but not least, Alley Theater is offering need based scholarships for their Summer Playmakers Camp.
